We specialize in bathroom remodeling at Cape Fear Kitchen and Baths, and we have seen projects of all scopes and sizes over the years. We understand the important role budgeting plays in a project, and because it can be tricky to determine how much you should have set aside for a bathroom remodeling project or what goals you can achieve within a certain budget, we thought it might be helpful to provide a couple of tips from professionals.
Here are a few budgeting tips for bathroom remodeling:
- Define and Prioritize Goals – Having direction and a clear vision matters when it comes to bathroom remodeling. You should be able to identify your main goals, whether you want to convert a bath to a shower, install a vanity, or upgrade outdated materials. After identifying those goals, prioritize them. Which things are you willing to compromise on and what do you absolutely want or need? Once you have figured out those details, you will have a better idea of which tasks will require more of your budget than others.
- Reuse, Refinish & Refresh – If it’s important to you to keep costs down, one of the best strategies is to avoid starting from scratch. If your cabinets are functional but need a makeover, you might want to have them refinished rather than replaced. If there’s a feature in your existing bathroom that you like—the flooring or fixtures perhaps—then maybe you should keep it and design around it. Don’t throw out materials you can still use.
- Don’t Set Your Number Too High – If you tell your contractor that your budget is a certain amount and you can’t go above it, you might end up having issues. People often spend more than expected on bathroom remodeling. To avoid draining your bank account, consider the likelihood that you will go over budget and set your budget lower instead.
